What savings calculators are for
Savings calculators cover the instruments where the rate is fixed and known in advance: fixed deposits, recurring deposits and the Public Provident Fund. There is no market assumption to make, so these results are far more certain than any investment projection.
What varies is compounding. Two deposits at the same advertised rate can mature at different amounts depending on whether interest compounds quarterly, half-yearly or annually, which is why each calculator states its assumption.
